How to copy and paste a URL as a link in Thunderbird email

URLs and email addresses are not active in the Write window. If you enter the URL in the proper format it will be active when sent. Send one to yourself to test.

Very terse question. I'm not sure what you are asking. I'm guessing you want to include an URL in a message you are composing.
You can simply copy an URL into the message text and the vast majority of mail clients will render it as an active link that can be clicked on. It would look like this: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1089649
If you want a link that looks like this, you'll need to compose using HTML formatting, and I'd recommend using the Insert|Link option in the menu.
In my Thunderbird, the copy and paste function certainly puts the URL into the message, but not as a link - just the text.
