I found that someone else had this problem, but Matt's solution required use of the Config Editor. I followed the instructions but upon clicking on the Advanced tab, there was no Config Editor tab in order to execute the next step of the solution. BTW, I look in the error console log and see this: Could not read chrome manifest 'file:///C:/Program%20Files%20(x86)/Mozilla%20Thunderbird/chrome.manifest'. The actual error itself is small box with Print Preview Error as label and The Selected Printer Could Not Be Found as the content of the box. Any help greatly appreciated.

You looked under Tools|Options|Advanced|General? In the main menu, that is, the traditional one that stretches across the top of Thunderbird?

Zenos, thank you. You were right, I was looking at the browser tabs instead of the Thunderbird tabs. However, in Config Editor searching for "printer.print" doesn't show anything (per the suggestion in the solution) but "printer" of course does. I'm a little hesitant to go ahead and right click on every entry and choose default (Can't. Make. My. Finger. Press. Enter.) but will take a steroid pill today and do it. Thanks again for your reply.
