How do keep the text throughout a message from being automatically formated?

When I pasted an item from my Mozilla browser it coped in italics. When I used the format tab to change the text style, it corrected the copied material, but when I continued to key-in additional text it kept appear in italics. In other words, once I added the originally italicized content, everything else after that was italicized and I had to manually reformat it to remove the italics. I could not get this automated action to not occurring.

Try "paste without formatting" next time.

ctrl+shift+v in Thunderbird.
