I see no "Help" sign to lead me to a manual. Can I park outgoing mail in the Outbox to be sent later?

Chosen solution

I never recommend directly placing messages in, or removing messages from the Outbox. If you use File|Send Later, (alternatively, ctrl+shift+return) or if Thunderbird is offline when you send, then your message will be parked in the Outbox pending an opportunity to send it. Generally, Thunderbird will remind you that messages are there and waiting every time you close it or open it, or when you toggle it between offline and online.

People talk about manually placing a message in the Outbox, but I have never quite understood how you would prepare a message ready to be sent in such a way that it was ready, and capable of being moved. Where would you store it before moving it to Outbox?

In short, don't put things into Outbox yourself; Thunderbird will do this for you when appropriate.
