thunderb closes after every send in windows 10

I upgraded to Windows 10. When I send a message in Thunderbird after sending the program closes. I have to reopen Thunderbird to continue working on my emails. Though it stays as an active tab on the task bar ( with an underlining mark) it is highly inconvenient. How can I prevent that?

How exactly are you starting Thunderbird? And how are you opening the compose window?

thunderbird is on my start menu. I click on the icon. when I write a new message I go to "write" and "send" . Same thing if it is a "reply'. It will close after a "send".
