I have made an extra e-mail account for my partner. We can read the e-mails when I am logged in, but she cannot read them when she is logged in.

I have made an extra e-mail account for my partner. We can read the e-mails in both our accounts when I am logged in, but she cannot read her mails when she is logged in herself. How can we make the account accessible directly for her?

Does this mean you have separate user accounts in the operating system, or something else?

And was she logged in as herself when adding this new account to Thunderbird?

Each user account will have its own profile (i.e. Thunderbird settings.) It sounds as if you were logged in as yourself and so her account is in your profile. If she logs in and adds her account to Thunderbird herself, it'll be in her profile and all should work as expected.
