Do the following to tell me how many profile folder names you currently have in Thunderbird.

Make hidden files and folders visible: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders

In thunderbird Help > Troubleshooting imformation click on 'Show folder' button

A new window opens showing your current profile folder name files an folders. In the directory, click on 'Profiles'. In my example - see image - I only have one Profile folder name called xxxxxxxx.default where the x's are letters and numbers and I am open on that folder. Do you have more than one Profile folder name? Please show me an image - it should look similar to mine.

Since the last catastrophe, I have forbidden automatic updates! and reinstalled most of my email accounts manually! this has worked up till now. Of course I've lost hundreds of mails and business contacts. This morning I opened up thunderbird and everything was gone again: mails, accounts, addressbooks etc.. In spite of having forbidden updates, thunderbird had updated to version 40.0 and minutes after that to version 38.02. With every new update my accounts are gone and Thunderbird proposes to create new "Geni" accounts. It seems Mozilla wants to force it's users to replace their existing accounts with "geni" accounts, I think this is very bad practice. I have been using Mozilla since it replaced Netscape right now I feel abused, I' m very very disapointed with Thunderbird!! There is clearly a big problem! I've no more mails, and no more accounts, but I still have all the account passwords in the "options section. Is there a way to reimport all my data in to Thunderbird? Please help, I'm in deep shit!

Nice rant, now how about participating in the solution process by answering the questions you were asked last time!

That you have a problem no one denies, but ranting here is not going to fix it. Nor is ignoring those trying to help.

Given that Thunderbird V40 has not been released and is only available from the beta download site https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/all-beta.html I really do not know what to make of what I am reading.

If you need help then you need to respond to my first comment requesting specific information about your Profile folder. You can always post images of the various folders to show their contents - saves you from actually typing everything.

  • how many Profile folder names are in the 'Profiles' folder - post image.
  • Post an image showing the contents of your 'profiles.ini' file

Assuming you have more than one profile folder name:

  • check out each profile folder name to see which one has all the emails and tell us the name of the profile folder name that contains the emails.

If pop, then click on 'Mail' folder, it should display a load of mail accounts you created, then select each mail account name to see if it has all the emails. Make a note of the one that has all the accounts and all the files with emails and let us know it's profile folder name.
