I now know that there is no way to sync T-Bird addresses directly with my iphone app unless going to a 2-step process using Google Mail. How do I set this up on T-Bird?

Chosen solution

Your Address Book is a colection of address books, such as Personal Address Book and Collected Addresses. Yes it needs to create a new address book for each external address book you sync with.

I run two google address books, each with its own counterpart in Thunderbird. One for general email, another for use in my phone which is used for phone numbers rather than email addresses. I don't want my full email list on my phone.

If you address email messages n Thunderbird using typing and auto-complete then it doesn't matter which of your address books an address is taken from.

Doesn't seem to do anything and there appears to be very little if any documentation. Any other ideas?

did you use the options button it has in the add-on manager to set it up with your username and password for google?

Matt,

The addon put a new button called gContactsync on top with File, Edit, etc. When I click on it I do not see an Options button. When I click on Edit Accounts or New Account nothing happens. Should I disable, remove and reinstall the addon?

I clicked "Sync" and it went off to find the contacts stored in each of my google accounts.

You do have a google account, with an active Google Contacts address book?

Yes I have an active Google account and am logged in to it .

OK,, got it done, The add-on works as specified. However I now have 2 address books, the Personal Address book (I think that's a default.) and another named after my email address. That's the one I want. Can I just delete the entries in the Personal Address Book since they are virtually all duplicates of the email named book. And do I have to have an address book named with my Gmail email address for the add-on to work?

A little more info. I click on the add-on and Edit Accounts. I see three accounts, my Google account, the Personal Address book and Collected Addresses. My Google Account address book has an entry next to it identifying it as my Google Account.

Thanks,
