Thunderbird does not start on a reboot.
Title says it all.
I have to start it manually on every reboot.

Is Thunderbird set up as an elevated program - run as administrator ? Elevated programs that need UAC cannot start at startup. Windows auto blocks them even if setup in Startup. This sounds like your issue. So try the option to create a Task Schedule - see previous info. Please create a Task Schedule and see if it works.
Yes it was set to run as administator and with this turned off it now starts on reboot as it should.
Thank you.

Why should Thunderbird start when you reboot?
Is your system set to run Thunderbird automatically?

It should start when I reboot if I set it so should it not?
Yes it is set to start on a reboot.
Method:
1. Entry in Start/Programs/Start Up Folder. 2. Properties of that entry set to 'start minimised'
Two other programs start automatically by this method, is Thunderbird different?
Thank you for providing enough information to understand the issue. I am not a mind reader.
Do you close Thunderbird manually before rebooting?
You're doing two things that I find slightly scary. You're rebooting - why? And you choose to automatically start Thunderbird at boot up, which is a busy time, with a great deal of disk accessing and cpu activity. I've always chosen to defer starting my applications until after all the dust had settled. But I don't know of any particular reason, or requirement on the part of Thunderbird, to cause your problem.
I don't understand why you find it scary.
I normally hibernate the computer and maybe reboot once per week, if that some times.
Yes, there is a lot going on at reboot but why does every program I have asked to restart over a 50 plus year period, restart at a reboot but Thunderbird doe not? That is my question.
If it is not built to act normally then perhaps the designers could say so?
I have used MS Outlook for many years (starting at reboot) but want to get away from MS so it is a little disapponting but if that its design then I will have to live with it.
However, if you do not know the answer, please allow those who might to answer rather than extend a thread unnecessarily.
I'm running Vista and have Thunderbird start up automatically after I have logged onto my User account. So. I bootup, logon to User account, desktop loads and then Thunderbird auto starts in a window.
Thunderbird is not in my 'Startup' folder and it does not show up in my 'system Configuration' (Run > msconfig).
However, it is in my Task Scheduler. Control Panel > Administarative Tools > Task scheduler It is triggered to start at logon of any user.
I have placed a .lnk in Startup, which is set to start minimized and it works as expected. Tested via Start→Shutdown→Restart
Windows 7 Pro, TB38.0.1.
I can't replicate the OP's problem.
Ok, thank you for the useful information.
I am using Windows 8.1 64bit edition. Log-in for that machine is by a finger swipe.
I have checked msconfig and find there is a startup entry for Thunderbird which is enabled but its startup impact has not yet been measured. Because it has never been triggered from day one?)
I have checked Taskmanager which I make use of and am very familier with and no entry exists for Thunderbird. A 'normal' user should not need to make such a manual entry?
I also have a lnk in the startup folder which is also set to start minimised and it does so only if I select it after boot.
However, once again I have just rebooted and Thunderbird did not start automatically.
I appreciate that it is a minor chore to have to make a manual start but if forgotten it can cause meetings to be missed for example. Therefore I would like to get to the botton of why it is not working.
Maybe it is related to the OS or the sign-in method?
re; I have checked Taskmanager
I did not mention 'TaskManager'.
I did mention: Task Scheduler - Schedule programs or other tasks to run automatically.
PDF with info showing how to schedule program to launch at reboot.
However, according to your settings TB should be starting.
Please try this:
Go to Control panel->Power options
click on "Change what the power buttons do".
On the new window, scroll down to "Shutdown settings" and you'll see an option "Turn on fast startup (recommended)".
Uncheck this option and save changes.
Retest the restart computer and report back.
You have my apologies - I was referring to Task Scheduler but mistakenly typed Manager.
I followed the route you suggested and can confirm that the 'Turn on fast start-up (recommended)' is and since the computer was bought, has been unchecked. I forget the reason why I did this as it is some while ago.
However, my computer has a Hybrid HD which is designed to remember the last settings which were used to speed up rebooting. As I return from hibernation more often than I reboot perhaps logically I thought, "Let it remember the hibernation settings" and accept a slower boot.
I did not do a reboot as you suggested as this would have not effect on the problem but thanks for searching around.
