Synching Tbird email to phone using IMAP and Mail app?

Hello,

Seems like I can do this but wanted to double check. I stopped using MacMail a while back and use Tbird now. But I'd like to be able to check email from my phone on a non-gmail, non-yahoo email address. It uses a separate domain name.

Can I use the Mail app on an iPhone and set up Tbird on my computer as an IMAP instead of POP account and basically sync the two email clients to check the same email address?

I have seen the IMAP and synching article in the knowledge base, which I will refer to. Just want to know if this is how people check mail on their phone.

I'm going to reiterate, I don't want to use gmail or yahoo. I have another gmail account and I don't like the interface enough to also check this particular email account using gmail.

Thanks, Jane

I think you have to delete your POP account first and then create a new one in IMAP.

It's the other way round. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Convert_a_POP_account_to_a_IMAP_account

In your opinion, is that the best way to check the same account on an iPhone?

That's the whole point, to use IMAP on the phone as well.

I keep seeing references to add-ons but I can't find what I'm looking for.

Not sure what references you mean and for what you'd want to install an add-on in the first place. I'd the iPhone expect to support IMAP out of the box. So does Thunderbird.

As long as your provider supports IMAP you can certainly set up your account as IMAP in Thunderbird. If the new account wizard doesn't select IMAP automatically you'd need to choose manual account setup. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/automatic-account-configuration https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/manual-account-configuration

Thanks. Yes I can set up as IMAP. I think you have to delete your POP account first and then create a new one in IMAP.

Ha! Maybe I don't want to check this email on my phone. There's that option, too : )

Thanks for this info!
