I was messing about and somehow managed to change description in Tools/Account Settings/Local Directory - it now reads: c/users/user name/app. data/roaming/thunderbird/profiles/jgv1g8vs.default\Mail\Local Folders\Trash.sbd (I am not sure what changed!!)

When I look in c/users/user name/app. data/roaming/thunderbird/profiles/jgv1g8vs.default/mail/local folders - I see each folder that I had in my Local Folders listing shown twice. (1) Folder name (2) Folder name.msf. (also shown are 3 .sbd folders)

Presumably all my folders are still on my PC and hopefully intact.

How can I reinstate these folders back into Thunderbird??

I hope I have supplied enough information.

Many thanks

There should be several files in that directory: Drafts, Drafts.msf, Inbox, Inbox.msf, Junk, Junk.msf, Sent, Sent.msf, Trash, Trash.msf, Unsent Messages, Unsent Messages.msf. There may also be .sbd files. The msf files are indexes. If they go missing, they can be recreated. The sbd files are subdirectories. They are needed to maintain subdirectory structure. The other files are databases. Do you have any backup of the profile? The databases cannot be reconstructed.

The only profile I am aware of is the one listed.(jgv etc.) I have not deleted anything.

finitarry,

As I had all day to think about the problem I called on a local PC Medic who came to my house and sorted the problem in about 2-3 minutes.

I think what he did was to correct the Local Directory setting to read:

c/users/user name/app. data/roaming/thunderbird/profiles/jgv1g8vs.default\Mail\Local Folders (without trash.sbd on the end)

Problem solved !!!

Apologies if I seemed to waste your time.
