How do I import my address book and e-mails from Windows Live Mail 2011 into Thunderbird?

My new ISP had problems with Windows Live Mail so I am now using Thunderbird for the first time. I have never used T-bird before so keep the instructions simple.

Chosen solution

They say a picture is worth a thousand words.

Apparently the choices are slightly different after 5 years. "Import all messages from a directory"

Click on the address book on the toolbar. On it's Tools menu select import and specify the file type.

I talk about opening a CSV file in a spreadsheet here to clean up the columns and headings as it is much easier than using Thunderbird's import tools to do so. (they creak on that task)

Thanks Matt, but which add-on do you suggest I use? From the descriptions, none of them are an exact fit.

Thanks.

I downloaded and installed the import/export tool extension, but still can't get the address book. Your instructions said to select the "import all EML files from a directory". There is no such option in the import/export tools.

I've saved my address book as a CSV file, can I import that into T-Bird?

I appreciate your patience with me.
