Setting up my Freeserve account needs the server address as pop.freeserve.net and the smtp as smtp.freeserve.net . The user name is everything after the @sign.
How do I enter "pop.freeserve.net" as incoming server and "smtp.freeserve.net" as the outgoing one?
I can cope with the user name being everything after the @ sign in my address. The bit before the sign may be anything I chose. I just need separate inboxes on my computer for the different aliases.

There are only 2 types of email accounts POP and IMAP. That is the purpose of the drop down box choices you are referring to. That box has nothing to do with what you type into the server name field. The provider names their server and you enter that complete name in the server name field.

The problem relates to the account set up menu. The word "POP3" is set as the only alternative to IMAP in the server set up. The log-in insists that the word inserted must be POP without the 3, which cannot be done with set-up system provided with Thunderbird. I suppose the outgoing server is less important since any available connection may be used for that.
