How do I sort the bookmark folders themselves instead of just their contents?

All answers I've found so far describe how to sort the bookmarks WITHIN a folder. I need to sort the actual folders, not their contents.

Currently there is still not a decent answer to this question.

If you are referring to doing an A-Z (alphabetical) sort for a folder, just right click that folder and select Sort by Name.

Each folder sorts dependently from every other folder, including "parent" and "child" folders in a "multiple tier" or "nested folders" arrangement.

To sort the top level of the Bookmarks menu, you can use either:

  • Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b or "Show All Bookmarks")
  • Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+b)

right-click the top level item "Bookmarks Menu" and choose Sort by Name. That should sort the folders at that level to the beginning of the menu in alpha order followed by the other bookmarks in alpha order.

more options

Bookmarks are sorted between separators, so you can (temporarily) add a separator under a list of folders to sort only these folders.
