e-mails are deleted after 30 days even though "settings" says none should be deleted without my OK. The deleted e-mails do not appear in trash.

Is this an IMAP account? What is the retention policy of your provider?

I do not know if my account is an IMAP account. I have a dell computer with Windows 7. Up until recently I was able to keep all prior e-mails that I deleted either in "in box" or "trash".

Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings or Menu icon > Options > Account Settings > Server Settings

Top right it will say 'Server Type'; Pop mail server or Imap mail server.
