red x appears in original folder when messages are move

When I move a message to another folder, it stays in the original folder (in this case, the InBox). The subject, etc., are crossed out and a red x appears in front of this information.

How can I get rid of these messages once they are moved?

My emaiis won't deIete. The deIete box is gone from the tooIbar, and repIaced by undeIete. Instead of deIeting the emaiI, the message gets a red X , and the message is underIined.
