My youtube videos won't load. "an error occured, please try again later"

Posted

Hi,

I recently asked a questions saying:

"I click on a YouTube video, an error message shows on the screen saying: "An error occurred, please try again later. Learn more" with a black background. I am pretty sure all of you guys have experienced it at least once. However, this phenomenon occurs every time I click a video. I cleared my cookies, updated my Adobe flash player, enabled java script, and updated Firefox. But these did not solve my problems. Help me out please!"

Someone replied to my question, saying that I should disable my adobe accelerator, which I have done. However, the youtube videos still do not load and the error message keep coming up. I am getting really frustrated. I have tried everything. Please help me.

Youtube's support: https://support.google.com/youtube/an.../3037019?hl=en suggests these steps.

More troubleshooting steps include:

  • Have you tried changing your DNS to 8.8.8.8, Google's public dns?
  • It is also possible to disable Shockwave Flash player and use the HTML5 player in the meantime. (In about:addons change the plugin to "Always Ask")
  • Please try to adjust the quality of the video as well.
  • Clear the cache and cookies
  • Right click on the player and select "Global Settings" and go to Storage and delete. Another way to try this is to open a private window and open the same youtube url. Did this help?

Hello,

Sorry to keep bothering you. But the problem has occurred again, and it has been happening for more than a few days. Should I try reinstalling Firefox?

Does it help if you reload the YouTube page?

You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.

"Clear the Cache":

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"

"Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:

  • Firefox > Preferences > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

I have already tried those methods and tried it again, but it is still not working. Same problem saying "an error occurred, please try again". Youtube works fine in other browsers but Firefox is the only one causing this problem. I want this badly fixed because I like using Firefox. Is there any other methods that I can try?

You can remove all data stored in Firefox from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry ("History > Show All History" or "View > Sidebar > History") or via the about:permissions page.

Using "Forget About This Site" will remove all data stored in Firefox from that domain like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make sure to backup this data or make a note.

You can't recover from this 'forget' unless you have a backup of the involved files.

It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

I reinstalled firefox and the problem was solved. But I am just disappointed that all my histories and saved passwords are gone.

@junelee, let's start a new thread to further troubleshoot. Also in order to see if there is a back up, in some version of windows you can right click on the profile folder and "Restore to previous version"
