The blue activity line when checking for new emails is outside the box, often randomly placed along the bottom bar. How to fix?

Safe Mode and checking the boxes Disable all ad ons and Reset Toolbars and Controls has no effect. Instead of the blue bar being in it's one inch window it appears usually to the left and sometimes a small piece to the right of the window.

OS XP Pro 32 bit, service pack 3. No theme other than vanilla that came with it. T-Bird 31.2.0 Default theme. No add ons. Addendum: T-Bird vanilla from DL has been running flawlessly for 2 years (OS Reinstall) without any problems or errors. No recent changes to OS or additional programs installed or modified. Blue bar problem was first noticed about 3 weeks ago.

Comodo Firewall active, system scanned by Avast every 3 days and Malwarebytes once per week. Real time AV always on.

Is it possible this could be caused by a piece of sheet video card? Am using MSI Radeon R7 250 1MB memory. This card, MSI's version, is a pure piece of CRAP
