how do I turn on download complete notification?
I want firefox to inform me that my downloads are completed. I can't find the browser.download.manger.showAlertOnComplete on firefox 33.0.3.
Please help. Thanks.

That pref was removed from Firefox around the Firefox 26, 27, or 28 version, as I recall.
There is a Downloads icon / button sitting in the Customize Menu palette that can be moved to a toolbar; depending upon the theme color, that icon glows green when a download is complete. Hit the button to open the Downloads window to view that window, or use {Ctrl + J} to open that window.
That Down arrow button should be on the Navigation Toolbar unless you have moved it away to the "3-bar" Firefox menu button drop-down list (Move to Menu) or the Customize palette (Remove from Toolbar).
Note that you can control the animation of the Downloads button via the browser.download.animateNotifications pref on the about:config page.
I hope that Mozilla will someday include it back. I know about the download icon on the toolbar and ctrl+J. I just need the notification window because I don't want to keep looking at the icon where the timer is and I'm using a 24" monitor making all icons on the toolbar small.
I know some people hate it but I need it.
Thanks!
See how this add-on works out for you. https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/downloads-window/
