I can't delete any emails from my inbox.

I haven't changed anything in settings, and have already closed, reopened Thunderbird, and even shut down and restarted my computer, but nothing helps.

Try this: Move all good emails out of Inbox into another suitable folder. Delete all unwanted emails.

then right click on Inbox and select 'compact'

I still can't delete any messages from my inbox. I was able to empty it, but I had to move all my messages to an archive folder, then move the ones back to my inbox that I wanted to keep, then I could delete the archive folder.

Can you move messages to the trash using the File button? I do that all the time because it does not change the status of the message.
