How do I delete a mailbox in Thunderbird. Somehow I have two mailboxes under "Local Folder" and I'd like to eliminate the one that never gets any mail.

It is called "Inbox." The same as the 'normal' "Inbox" right above it.

To make it clear:

I have TWO mailboxes called "Inbox" and would like to delete one of them.

I've asked this question about thirty times.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO DELETE A MAILBOX?

Chosen solution

To try and delete the second Inbox follow these instructions and then report back as to whether this worked for you.

Make hidden files and folders visible:

In Thunderbird:

  • Help > Troubleshooting Information
  • click on 'show folder' button

it will open a new window showing your profile folder.

Close Thunderbird now - this is important.

  • Click on 'Mail' folder
  • click on the 'Local Folders' account
  • look for the following files - make sure you select the ones that are empty and not the ones with emails, they will be probably listed as the second set of Inbox files: Inbox and Inbox.msf
  • Delete Inbox and Inbox.msf files
  • Close window - top right X
  • Restart Thunderbird
