Hello: My hair is hurting.

This week, my Mac (OSX Lion) 's Foirefox 31.0 just stopped selecting items from all visited sites with drop down menus.

Other browsers (Safari, Chrome) work fine.

I've emptied the cache. No luck.

One solution I read was to Reset Firefox which I started to do from the directions offered but I was afraid that after saving a copy of my Profile folder, I would not know what I was going to lose and how or if those lost themes and extensions and other items could be restored from the saved copy. also, no hint about how (or when) to restore the copied Profile folder.

I'm not even sure the "restoire" is the proper solution to the problem.

Any detailed help would be a big help. (I'm not a tech person so I close to being dumb as a fencepost with complicated fixes.

Many thanks

You can try to disable hardware acceleration in Firefox.

  • Firefox > Preferences > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"

You need to close and restart Firefox after toggling this setting.

Thanks, cor-el:

I tried your suggestion and restarted Firefox after first disabling the "Use hardware acceleration when available" and restarting (no luck) then just I just toggled it off/on and then restarting.

No luck either way.

A new twist.

I've retired for the night and I opened my MacBook Pro next to the bed and find that the same issue is happening on the MacBook. (OSX 10.7 and same Firefox 31.0)

Huh?

All the online site pull-down menus are NOT working' There is a two-position offset (when there are two additional positions to use, otherwise nothing happenes.)

On some pull-down menus, the selection flickers but does nothing.

Same on the MacBook.

Too many online orders have been screwed up with this functional error.

So without a solution and after eleven years with my favorite browser, I'm forced to retire Firefox and move on to another browser.

Sad.

Any last ditch ideas?

thanx

I found ther problem (after trying every suggestion offered here including a reset.)

It was an extension called Theme Font & Size Changer 32.0 When it was removed, the whole problem went away.

Too bad because it's a great little program but it doesn't like my version of Firefox. Thanks for all the suggestions.
