How do I set default delivery to HTML TB resets to Autodetect

I am trying to set the default for message delivery to HTML however the setting always reverts to Auto detect. I therefore have to remember to change the format for each mail otherwise the message is sent as a plain text message and any image is stripped from the mail

View > Message body as > Original HTML or 3bar menu icon > View > Message body as > Original HTML

In Address Book Make sure your name in any of your address books does not have this selected: 'Prefers to receive messages formatted as 'Plain Text'. click on OK if you make any changes.
