Using Del or backspace while writing a message or a receipent, an help tab pops up at Firefox.
Del always causes this, backspace very rarely. When I close the browser window, I also find that my four line signature horizontally lined up.

If you are writing an email in a Thunderbird Write window, the Del or Backspace button only effects where you are writing.
If you are getting random tabs opening in Firefox browser whilst you are not actually focused nor using Firefox, I suggest you run a Malware program to see if there are malware on your system.
Used MalwareBytes' Anti-Malware on trial. Found loads of malware in the Mozilla Firefox profile.
