The Welcome to Thunderbird takes up half the screen, and I can't delete it.

Since that notice popped up, it takes up the bottom half of the screen, and I can't find a way to delete it. Sometimes when I open Thunderbird, the Welcome message isn't there, but one of my regular emails takes up the bottom half of the screen instead. I want to go back to a basic list of emails and only read the ones I click on.

Chosen solution

Turn off the message pane. F8 will toggle it on and off.

FYI: Anytime you want to change the layout view of your screen, look in the VIEW menu. All those options are there.

If that is the Thunderbird start page, you can disable that from Preferences/Options > General by unchecking the box under "Thunderbird Start Page".

I was able to delete the Thunderbird page, but the screen is still divided in two parts. The top shows the email list, and the bottom shows whatever email I click on. I want the two to be separate, the way they used to be. Thanks.

If you want a separate message window, you set that from Preferences/Options > Advanced > Reading & Display.

Thanks. I had the same problem (although admittedly not a major issue), and your advice was well received.
