How can I automatically run antivirus for downloaded files from Firefox in Linux (Ubuntu)?
I dual boot my computer with Windows 7 and sometimes download exe files in Linux to use on Windows. I tried using Fireclam but that addon freezes the browser for several seconds each time a download finishes. I have also tried playing around with Auto Shutdown but couldn't figure it out. I am wondering if there is another automated and faster way of scanning the downloaded files. I have Avast installed on Ubuntu already, is there any way I can call it from Firefox whenever a download finishes?
EDIT: After some more searching, I came across this: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=427258 https://mail.mozilla.org/pipermail/firefox-dev/2013-August/000848.html
I didn't realize that the feature was actually removed entirely from Firefox last year, I guess I haven't been paying much attention to what is going on in the Downloads history even in Windows. Looks like I will need to manually scan before using files anyways.

Some anti-virus programs will automaticlly scan downloaded files. Check the AV options. If you need more help, we are here.

Thanks for your response. For Avast, I don't see an option that would allow me to scan downloaded files automatically, and there isn't real-time protection (not that I would want that option on while using linux). I know that on Windows if I download something, as soon as the download completes the message under the progress bar for that file changes to something like "File is currently being scanned". I am wondering if there is an option to enable scanning under linux as well, and point linux to the AV I am using. I found several posts for FF under Windows on how to disable AV scanning in about:config, but I notice that this parameter doesn't exist under linux.
Thanks.
