Why did you shade-in the page headings (dark gray) - and how do I get rid of the shading?

The headings above all email messages are dark gray; and when I compose a message, reply to a message, etc. the whole heading section is gray. Why? And how do I get rid of the shading and go back to the plain headings? Thank you very much.
