I have uninstalled, reinstalled, and even reset firefox multiple times. Anytime I try to type in Mozilla firefox, the screen freezes. I am able to do everything I want in safemode, but it will NOT work in normal mode, I have no addons or extensions installed, no tool bars. Just bare bones Mozilla firefox. PLEASE HELP

Do you use security software that modifies the way keyboard input is sent to applications, for example, an anti-keylogging feature?

Could you double-check that Firefox isn't picking up any extensions installed externally on your system (Firefox discovers these in the Windows registry)? These should appear on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

Then in the left column click Extensions.

In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:

  • all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
  • default theme is used (no persona)
  • userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
  • default toolbar layout is used (localstore-safe.rdf file)
  • JavaScript JIT compilers are disabled (about:config page: javascript.options.*jit)
  • hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
  • plugins are not affected
  • preferences are not affected

Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.

See "Creating a profile":

If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem
