I'm having trouble understanding the context of the problem. You are following a link to site A and it redirects to site B? Is this in search engine results, or in a particular site's articles or somewhere else?

There is an old problem generally called the Google Redirect Virus which is a severe malware infection protected by a rootkit. So before doing more extension shopping, I suggest trying to ascertain whether this is merely a few bad websites or something much more serious.

I hope this clears things up. Sorry about being late in responding. I did spend some time checking for malware, viruses and PUPs.

I hate redirects. They are liars and trackers that have no need of my info. Ghostery blocks the redirect but there is no way around it. (Ghostery prevented a redirect from ud.ed10.net to adfarm.mediaplex.com, which is part of ValueClick Mediaplex.'

This was a general look see about something I can't remember now. When I clicked on what I know as a trusted link, I got the redirect thing that Ghostery prevented. So' I went to the addon page to see if there is an extension that will eliminate the redirect and take me to the place I want to go. I found several, but none of them work in FF 30.

However, one of them said it is incompatible with FF 30, but only after installation. It is "Redirect Remover 2.6.4

This is the one that FF said their web site was a forgery. And on the second try at it WOT claimed it was a "dangerous" site. And, being continually curious, I just went to the site any ways. That is when I found the "download" thingy with the Flash logo. It said my down loader was a problem and wanted me to download some kind of download accelerator.

Is there a redirect cleaner that will work with FF 30 and fix all redirects, regardless of who they are.

Now I remember what the link was. It was to go to Dell Computers to see what kind of deals they had on a different PC. The link was in an email I got because I subscribe to their forum on windows.

It's very common for links in marketing emails to go through a tracking system so that the sender can assess the response to the message. You could in theory find a browser add-on that detects the redirect from server #1 to server #2 and stop, but then you would be stuck in limbo, counted by the tracker but without getting to the page you wanted.

Most of the redirect cleaners I've seen study the links to see whether they have a second URL, and then they rewrite the link so it goes directly to that second URL. This definitely works in some cases, but in others -- with URL shorteners, for example -- the second URL cannot be determined that easily.

I've decided to let it go. I've spent too much time on it already. It was important in the minute, but not now.

It did find me looking on "Bleeping Computer" for a different cleaner upper. I've been thinking that one or more of the ones I've been using may just be sending info on my system to their company and not actually doing a serious clean up if necessary. Sometimes one anti virus will pick up something that another will give the all clear on.
