left panel doesn't load (Thunderbird version 24.6.0 NL)
Lately the left panel doesn't load anymore, therefore cannot use this programm. During the last week sometimes the left panel did show up after 2nd, 3rd or 4th restart of the programm. Now... also this "escape" isn't working anymore. Have recently updated to most recent version.
Have also tried
- to remove Thunderbird + re-install, was succesful for only 1st start ==> at 2nd use of the programm... same problem.
- followed the suggestion on this forum (removing 2 files in particular directory / restarting with add-ons disabled / etc); unfortunately without success.
Thanks for your help in solving this issue. André

Thanks a lot! I've tried to follow your procedure and have created another profile ==> then I needed to insert my e-mailaddress/password / mailservers etc + ... now all is running as it should be. thanks for your efforts; am glad I can continue using Thunderbird!!!

I assume the "left panel" is the Folder Pane.
From the Menu Bar select View-Layout-Folder Pane and turn it on.
No menu bar showing? Press the alt key.
If it is already clicked on but not displaying, move your mouse to the left edge of the main window. When the cursor changes to a double headed arrow, left click and drag to the right to uncover the folder pane.
Thanks for the suggestions, but ...
- view-layout-folder-pane ==> was already switched on. Have switched off, restarted, switched on, restarted ... all ... without success unfortunately
- the 2nd suggestion (move mouse to left edge...): no "double arrow" visible; I know what you mean (have seen this double arrow in the past, but now it's not visible at all).
Would you have another solution for me? Would ... be great!!!
Not sure what else it could be. You might restart with add ons disabled and see if you have one causing problems. You can do this from the Help menu.
nop... had already tried this option as well...
- restart with add ons disabled
and (and also "or")
- "bars and settings re-set" (= my translation of the dutch version I'm using)
In meantime have also tried with add-on named "maximize_message_pane-1.1.16-tb.xpi", but ... also no improvement
Is there any other solution available?
HELP HELP !!!
If you can see the Folder Pane, but it is empty. Access your Profile Folders and delete the 'session.json' and 'foldertree.json' files.
Profile Folders are hidden folders.
make hidden files and folders visible:
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders
access Profile Folder:
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird
In thunderbird:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information
- click on 'Show Folder'
- a new window opens showing your Profile Folder.
- Close Thunderbird now - this is important
- locate and delete the 'session.json' and 'foldertree.json' files.
- close window.
- open Thunderbird.
Does the Folder Pane now show folders?
How now tried also this option (removing the 2 files) + restarted (even 3x); unfortunately... no improvement. Pls see screenshot attached so you can see how Thunderbird now appears. Any other solution you could propose?
Thanks for image. ongelezen mappen = unread folders.
Try this: View > Folders > All
have tried, but ... I only see one of the names:
- ongelezen mappen = unread folders OR
- alle mappen = all folders OR
- samengevoegde mappen = combined folders OR
- recente mappen = recent folders OR
- favoriete mappen = favorite folders OR
below this line ... no folders (or mailboxes) visible ... unfortunately
Please check:
Help > Troubleshooting Information
click on 'Show Folder' a new window opens showing your Profile Folder.
Click on the 'Profiles' in top directory address. see image. In my example I have one Profile folder which is open.
How many Profile folders do you have? If more than one make a note of the profile names. select the other Profile folder. click on 'Mail or ImapMail if IMAP account can you see a list of your folders? If yes, then Thunderbird has created another Profile and has opened on the wrong profile.
Close Thunderbird. Use Profile Manager to open on correct Profile. info on Profile manager. http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager
I created a shortcut so making it easier to access Profile manager in future. Alll info at link.
Did you discover another profile?
