mail on the mail client not being downloaded. thunderbird looks for messages and say no msgs to download

I currently have 7 messages on my email client. Thunderbird is unable to download them, well it will eventually hours and hours and hours later. It says on the lower left corner checking for mail, then it says no messages to download. I am on the latest version of Thunderbird 24.6.0 on Windows machine. If I press Get Messages button it tells me 7 messages to download then never downloads them.

Below is the troubleshooting report. Just noticed that if I send an e-mail the mail stuck on the email server comes into thunderbird. I have turned off all Anti-Virus software.
