My Google - email address book suddenly made 12000 copies of an address, how to remove the 11999 copies from the address book ?k

I was checking my address book, and in the folder called Google-erikstenfeldt@gmail.com, one of the addresses was multiplied 12.000 times. I spent one hour to manually delete all the extra addresses, but next day when I opened the address book, the same address was again multiplied 12.000 times. How to remove the dublicates ? Why could it happen ?
