I installed lightning but can not create events or tasks (grey) and tab under options is called calendar and not lightning ?

I installed Lightning but i can not create a new event or task. PC is running windows 8 Under file >> new both event and task are grey. In the toolbar I have an option "Events and task" and that opens the calendar or task screen but it's not editable. What did I do wrong ?

Did you create a calendar in the first place?
