The only way I can get Thunderbird 24.5.0 to get this messages is to hit the drop down arrow and click on each of the two accounts separately. Even the get all new messages doesn't work. I've tried to delete the inbox & inbox.mfg (?) folders for each account and the local folder, resetting Thunderbird, tried to remove icons during customizing tool bar, then restoring defaults without any luck. I don't think something is set up correctly. What I am trying to get Thunderbird to do is to check both accounts with the get mail button and put all the massages in the same inbox. It worked that way on the version I had on XP and I have moved to WIn 7 can't figure this out. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Toad-hall, I'm sorry for the delay in responding, work and personal issues. The individual accounts I was was clicking on are shown after you click the arrow next to the 'Get Mail' button and the drop down box gave us the means to get the mail from both account individually.

Yes we use POP servers and they are told to go to Global InBox so we don't see the individual account folders, just one InBox. And Yeah the that little box 'Include this server when getting new mail' was not checked and since has worked wonderfully since! Thank you

Part of the problem, I believe, is the mouse we use kinda does multiple clicks and if your not careful, you will delete two e-mails at once or check and un-check or save and not save, all with on click. I see this only with Mozzilla products, which are the most used and clicked apon. I'm glad I doubled check your suggestions because I could have sworn these were previously checked. Thank all of you for your time and suggestions

check both accounts with the get mail button

Tools (Alt-T) - Account Settings - Server Settings - Advanced

Check 'Include this server when getting new mail.'

... put all the massages in the same inbox.

The box wasn't checked on either account and after checking them there was no change - still have to click each account .

On a similar theme, the use inbox for in that dialog Selecting use other inbox global inbox is what your looking for from your XP with a single account showing (Local folders)

Check in Tools (Alt-T) - Account Settings - Server Settings that check for messages on startup and every ten minutes and automatically download messages are all set.

Disable email scanning in your anti virus. They are very good at making a mess of a simple process. As the anti virus sits between Thunderbird and the mail server disabling the email scanning works towards eliminating the anti virus as the cause of the issue.

I'm sorry Matt, but all of those suggestions where already done as you asked. I have noticed that Thunderbird will get e-mail while it's running if there is a new e-mail to receive and place it in the local folder inbox. Put it won't get any e-mail until you first click each account separately, then it will get any new ones.

Sorry I meant to say 'But it won't get any e-mail until you first click each account separately, then it will get any new ones.'

I notice you say: I have noticed that Thunderbird will get e-mail while it's running if there is a new e-mail to receive and place it in the local folder inbox - as you mention selecting the individual mail account to Getmail - this sounds odd.

Why is the new message going to Local Folders Inbox? It should only do this if you have set up Pop mail accounts to use a Global Inbox, in which case you should not see individual mail accounts with their own folders as they are using common folders.

Have you set all your Pop mail accounts to use Local Folders as a Global Inbox?

Please confirm your setup. What have you got in settings for each mail account: Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings for the mail account. click on 'Advanced' button Which option is selected?

  • Inbox for this servers' account

or

  • Inbox for different account and select Global Inbox (Local Folders)

If you have Global Inbox selected, have you selected 'Include this server when getting new mail' click on OK to save any changes.

Post an Image of your Folder Pane.

You could check the mouse settings. maybe they are too sensitive.

Control Panel > Mouse

there should be a speed setting for double click, you can modify this too suit your own personal natural double click speed.

If you have ClickLock switched on, I would uncheck that option.

Good to hear your the info helped and you are now getting mail.

I'm happy to report that the e-mail is working great. Infact it brings the mail in as it starts up. Thanks again.

As for the mouse, the ClickLock was unchecked I have tried to change the double click speed and it will still double delete e-mails (the one being deleted and the next one). Changing the speed helped but I think it's more a problem with the mouse who's age is close to being 10 this year. It actually this problem developed while still on XP and carried over to Win7. But it's funny it's only with Mozilla programs and the kids Minecraft game. And on the other side, there is a lot of clicking going on in these programs so it looks like a new mouse is in order. Thanks for all the help. It was a pleasure.
