When I open Thunderbird, instead of the inbox folder etc. it shows an email opened straight away. If I close that email, another opens after it.

When I open thunderbird, it goes momentarily past the screen showing inbox etc., straight into opening an email. When I close that email, it opens another. And so on. Is there some setting that causes this? Or is it a bug? I can't get back to the screen where I can go to inbox or sent, drafts or trash. Why? I've looked just about everywhere and can't find any setting that fixes this. What could cause it and what can I do to fix it? Please!

Sounds like you had several messages open when you last closed Thunderbird. Thunderbird opens just like you closed it. Get in the habit of closing messages after reading them.

Right click one of the open message tabs at the top of the screen and select Close Other Tabs. Then use the x in the last tab to close it.
