The built-in VPN is being introduced to the Firefox user base in stages, through a progressive rollout that currently includes users in the US, UK, Germany and FranceUS, UK, Germany, France and Canada. It may not be available to you yet, even if you’re in one of these locations, as the staged rollout takes time to reach everyone.
If you are in a country where the built-in VPN is being introduced but do not see the built-in VPN, please note that this is part of an experimental study being rolled out in stages. This means the experiment may not have reached you yet.
You can try the following steps to check what may be preventing you from getting this feature:
- Enter about:studies in the Firefox address bar to check whether you’re part of the VPN - MVP Beta Holdback study. See About Studies to learn more about participating in studies.
- The built-in VPN may also be unavailable if Enterprise policies are blocking it. You can check this by going to about:policies in Firefox.
- Signing out of your Mozilla account and signing back in may also help. Before signing out, make sure you know your password and that Sync is enabled so you don’t risk losing or overwriting browser data.
Finally, when the built-in VPN is available, you should see a in the top-right corner of the toolbar. Selecting it will open a prompt to turn on the VPN. If you don’t see the icon, try customizing your toolbar by right-clicking the toolbar and checking the overflow menu to add it back.
