Import data from another browser

Firefox enables you to import bookmarks and other information from browsers installed on your computer.

To start importing your bookmarks or other data:

  1. At the top of the Firefox window, click the File menu and select Import.... The Import Wizard will open.

    Note: If Import... is disabled (greyed out), you may be in Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode. Turn off that feature and try again.
  1. Press the Alt key to temporarily bring up the traditional Firefox menus. Then, click the File menu and select Import....
    Windows XP: At the top of the Firefox window, click the File menu and select Import.... The Import Wizard will open.

    Note: If Import... is disabled (greyed out), you may be in Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode. Turn off that feature and try again.
  1. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton to open the menu panel. Click Bookmarks and then click the Manage bookmarks bar at the bottom.
  2. In the Library window, click Import and Backup and choose Import Data from Another Browser.... The Import Wizard will open.

    Note: If Import Data from Another Browser... is disabled (greyed out), you may be in Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode. Turn off that feature and try again.
  1. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton to open the menu panel. Click Bookmarks and then click the Manage bookmarks bar at the bottom.
  2. In the Library window, click f60cc26c38fc04cce87eb6ea6ec8c400-1259975468-619-1.pngImport and Backup and choose Import Data from Another Browser....
    Note: If Import Data from Another Browser... is disabled (greyed out), you may be in Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode. Turn off that feature and try again.

Select the browser that contains the bookmarks or other data that you want to use in Firefox and then continue to the next screens to make your selections and complete the import.

If the Import Wizard does not list your other browser, you can still import bookmarks from another browser but you will need to first export and save those bookmarks as an HTML file. Visit the support site for your other browser if you need help with that.
