Firefox Hello - video and voice conversations online

Firefox Hello lets you have free video and voice calls and text messaging directly in the browser. All you need are a webcam (optional), a microphone, and the latest version of Firefox to call friends who are on WebRTC-supported browsers like Firefox, Chrome, or Opera.

The newest version of Firefox now comes with instant messaging. Learn how to update Firefox to the latest version.
Note: Firefox Hello is not available in Private Browsing.

Invite someone to talk

  1. Click the Hello button hello button.
    Tip: Move the Hello button to your toolbar. For more information, see Where is the Firefox Hello button?.
  2. Click the Email button to send the link to a friend using your default email application, or click Copy and paste the link into another messaging application.
  3. When your friend clicks on the link to start a call, a notification will pop up on your browser:

  4. Click the answer 35 button to accept the conversation. Choose the video camera option if you'd like to have a video conversation, or the microphone option for a voice-only call.
  5. Use the privacy controls webrtc privacy to turn off your camera or mute your microphone as needed.
  6. To end the call, click call end.

Start a conversation

  2. Click Start a conversation.

  3. Label your conversation by typing a name into the Name this conversation field, then use the following options to invite friends:
    • Email the link to your friend by clicking Email Link button. This will open your default email application.
    • Copy and paste the link into your preferred messaging tool by clicking Copy Link.

  4. When your friend joins the conversation, the Hello button will turn blue hello button active with an accompanying alert. The blue dot on your list will also let you know which conversation is active.

  5. To end the call, click hello hang up 35.

    • The conversation will stay on your list for future use. You can delete it by clicking the trash icon next to the conversation.

  4. When your friend joins the conversation, the Hello button will turn blue hello button active with an accompanying alert. The blue dot on your list will also let you know which conversation is active. To join a conversation just click on it.

Join a conversation

Received an invitation? Joining a conversation is easy! Just click on the link on the invitation and click the button on the page to enter the conversation.

Control your notifications

If you're not ready to receive a call, click on the status menu at the bottom of the window and set it to Do Not Disturb to stop all call notifications.

  2. Click Browse this page with a friend.

  3. Use the following options to invite your friends:

    • Copy and paste the link into your preferred messaging tool by clicking Copy Link.
    • Email the link to your friend by clicking Email Link button. This will open your default email application.
    • Share the link on Facebook.
  4. When your friend joins the conversation, you will see an alert.
  5. To end the call, click hello hang up 35.

Join a conversation

Received an invitation? Joining a conversation is easy! Just click on the link on the invitation and click the button on the page to enter the conversation.

Control your notifications

You can turn off notifications in Firefox if you prefer not to be notified when a friend joins:

  1. Click the Hello button hello button.
  2. Click the cogwheel at the bottom of the panel and choose Turn Notifications Off.
