Pocket is a feature that's built into Firefox. You need to have a Pocket account in order to save articles with the Pocket Fx89PocketButton button, which is found in the Firefox toolbar.

This article explains how to remove the Save to Pocket functionality in Firefox.

Disable Save to Pocket for Firefox

To turn off the Save to Pocket functionality in Firefox, follow these steps:

Warning: These instructions are for experienced Firefox users. Changing settings in the Configuration Editor (about:config) can have serious effects on your browser’s stability, security and performance.
Only proceed if you are comfortable with advanced settings and understand the potential impacts.

  1. Type about:config in the address bar and press EnterReturn.
    A warning page may appear. Click Accept the Risk and Continue to go to the about:config page.
  2. Type “pocket” in the Search box.
  3. Click the Toggle Fx71aboutconfig-ToggleButton button next to the extensions.pocket.enabled preference to toggle its value to false.
Note: Disabling Pocket does not remove Recommended by Pocket entries on the New Tab page. If you would also like to remove those Pocket recommendations, see Recommended stories on the Firefox New Tab page - FAQ.

Re-enable Save to Pocket for Firefox

  1. Type about:config in the address bar and press EnterReturn.
    A warning page may appear. Click Accept the Risk and Continue to go to the about:config page.
  2. Type “pocket” in the Search box.
  3. Click the Toggle Fx71aboutconfig-ToggleButton button next to the extensions.pocket.enabled preference to toggle its value to true.

Hide the Pocket button in your toolbar

When Pocket is enabled, a Pocket button appears in the toolbar whenever you're on a page that can be saved. You can remove the Pocket button from the toolbar without disabling Pocket.

  1. Right-clickHold down the Control key while you click the Pocket button(or right-click the button) and click on Remove from Toolbar.

You can always bring Pocket back to your toolbar later:

  1. Click the menu button Fx89menuButton, then click More tools and select Customize Toolbar…
  2. Drag and drop the Pocket button from the customization panel into your toolbar.

Remove Save to Pocket similar story recommendations

When you save a page to Pocket, you may see links to related articles, which you can click to open and view. If you prefer not to see similar stories when you save a page to Pocket, you can turn this feature off.

Note: This feature is currently available for English-language articles only.
  1. Type about:config in the address bar and press EnterReturn.

  2. Type “pocket” in the Search box.
  3. Click the Toggle Fx71aboutconfig-ToggleButton button next to the extensions.pocket.onSaveRecs preference to toggle its value to false.
  4. Restart Firefox

You will no longer see article suggestions when you save links to your Pocket account.
