Disable or re-enable Pocket for Firefox

Pocket is a feature that's built into Firefox. It adds a Pocket button Pocket button to your toolbaraddress bar and a View Pocket List entry to the BookmarksLibrary menu. If you prefer not to use Pocket for Firefox, follow these steps to disable it.

Remove Pocket from your toolbar or menu

Removing Pocket from your toolbar or menu will disable it:

  1. Right-clickHold down the Control key while you click the Pocket icon Pocket button (or right-click the icon).
  2. Select Remove from Toolbar.

Re-enable Pocket for Firefox

  1. Click the menu button The image "new fx menu" does not exist. and select +Customize.
  2. Drag the Pocket icon to your toolbar or menu.

  3. Click Exit Customize to save your changes.

Disable Pocket for Firefox

  1. Type about:config in the address bar and press EnterReturn.
    A warning page may appear. Click Accept the Risk and Continue to go to the about:config page.
  2. Type pocket in the Search box above the list of preferences.
  3. Double-click the extensions.pocket.enabled preference to toggle its value to false.
Note: Disabling Pocket does not remove Recommended by Pocket entries, if present, on the New Tab page. If you would also like to remove those Pocket recommendations, click the cogwheel at the top right corner of the New Tab page and uncheck Recommended by Pocket. See Customize items on your Firefox New Tab page for more information.

Re-enable Pocket for Firefox

If you want to re-enable Pocket, do the following:

  1. Type about:config in the address bar and press EnterReturn.
    A warning page may appear. Click Accept the Risk and Continue to go to the about:config page.
  2. Type pocket in the Search box above the list of preferences.
  3. Double-click the extensions.pocket.enabled preference to toggle its value to true.

When Pocket is enabled, a Pocket button appears in the address bar by default. You can remove the Pocket button from the address bar without disabling Pocket, as follows:

Right-clickHold down the Control key while you click the Pocket button (or right-click the button) and click on Remove from Address Bar.

Pocket will remain enabled and the Page Actions (three-dot) menu will still include a Pocket entry.

To add the Pocket button back to the address bar, click the Page Actions (three-dot) menu button.
