The program does not allow my home page to come up at start up. Found it in the root directory with Firefox and deleted it but must be imbedded in Firefox because it still starts up with BING home page.

Get rid of whatever Conduit stuff you have installed - in Firefox Add-ons and in the Windows Control Panel > Add / Remove Programs. Conduit is basically Malware, IMO. A few years ago every add-on which was based on Conduit was removed from the official add-ons website and they were banned. They have since cleaned up their act (a bit, but not enough, IMO) and are now allowed to have add-ons hosted by Mozilla, but no where near the number which were there before the "ban".

Splendid! Thanks, Edmeister. Another question though: In attempting to crush this 'conduit' beast I searched everywhere in our computer for the term 'conduit' (via Windows 7); in response I received three file names, some folders, and other stuff. I began to delete ... However when I tried to eliminate a particular folder, The System sent me on a Fear Trip: 'Caution! This folder contains [a certain file type] which relates to programs or other Really Important Stuff ... Deleting it could cause your world to collapse ... do you really wanna do that?' I figure that some programmers are sadists. Should I be concerned about this (pretty extreme) warning?? I appreciate your efforts and your expertise!

Sorry, my instructions for the "owner" of this thread were with regards to his particular problem with the homepage change / lock that he posted in More systen details... (also posted at the top of my response) and didn't involve routing thru the file system and deleting files. There are many other "things" which can add Bing to Firefox, so if Bing is your main problem there might be other causes or hidden software that was installed - my last count was over 10 causes.

As far as deleting the files you found, as long as you are sure those files are definitely related to Conduit, I see no reason not to delete those files.

Thanks again. I did eliminate all of 'conduit', apparently without problems. However ... Bing is back!

I notice that Bing is 'owned' by Microsoft. Perhaps Bing is added (almost) automatically whenever some other Microsoft element is used. Anyway, I'll attack it again as soon as I can. Life is short!

Cheers -
