I paid donation and downloaded Thunderbird to my mac using both chrome and Firefox and got message file corrupt every time I tried to install.

I would guess you use an antivirus or other personal security product. Norton's has been known to corrupt Thunderbird installation packages in the past, but all of the antivirus products that scan downloads would be capable of corrupting those downloads.
