Upgrades without notice

Recently Thunderbird released two upgrades that were installed on my PC upen opening Thunderbird. Unfortunately an essential plug in (BIDImail UI) failed to opertae since it is not compatible with the newer release. It took a while for the developer of the plgin to rlease a compatible version. Why is the upgrade installed without asking my permission? Regards,

Have you set the preferences in setting to ask you before updating? It sounds like the answer to that is no!
