Corrupt emails show as plain text only (bitdefender??). SOLVED by changing Earthlink POP security authentication from NONE to SSL
With 140.1.1esr 32-bit (on a 64-bit laptop) I'm getting some emails from Earthlink POP3 account corrupted and showing only as plain text. The bad emails all share these 2 lines which do not appear in other good emails:
Received-SPF: pas .
I have another laptop with 140.1.0esr 64-bit and it does not have any problems with Earthlink POP3 emails.
When I installed 140.1.0esr 64-bit on the "bad" laptop, the problem goes away.
I was also getting corrupted emails from a Gmail POP account but could not see what might be missing or bad in the source.
Just an observation, this suddenly started happening on Aug 11.
Here's a post about maybe the same problem: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/5520490/suddenly-most-of-my-e-mails-contain-unintelligble

Are you using Bitdefender?
Yes, but AntiSpam is turned off. The "bad" laptop is still getting corrupted emails with Tbird 140.1.0ers (64), so maybe not a Tbird problem.
Bitfender AntiSpam is turned on on the "good" laptop which is not having problems.
People are thinking it related to VadeSecure combined with POP3.
I'll try turning off Bitdefender Encrypted Web Scanning.
Please read wsmwk post and possible workaround at https://www.reddit.com/r/Thunderbird/comments/1mo693n/comment/n8ammvq/
Please post your results - does the workaround work for you?
Yesterday I was running with BD AntiSPam off and Encrypted Web Scan off. Still getting bad emails from Earthlink POP.
I changed my Earthlink POP inbound settings from Port 110, Connection security: None, Authentication method: Insecure password, TO Port 995, Conn secu: SSL/TLS, Auth meth: Normal password.
I had changed these settings a few months ago when I could not receive emails from Earthlink.
This has fixed the problem. I now have AntiSpam on, Encrypted Web Scan off, and have not done update/reboot of BD yet.
But something had suddenly changed on Aug 11.
I do have another laptop with BD on, and the old POP inbound settings, which has not had any problems.
Thanks for your response, I'll continue to monitor the comments
