Thunderbird deleting messages

Deleting a message on Thunderbird means that the whole screen goes blank. I then have to restart Thunderbird which means I lose all my open tabs.

I have no answer or resolution, but I encourage you to post info on you operating system and thunderbird version, as that may help others in diagnosing your issue.
