Thunderbird lost .exe

I turned my laptop on this morning and Thunderbird disapeared! It looks as though an auto update failed after the .exe file etc had been deleted. How can I re-instal (via my desktop if necessary which I am on here) without losing all my settings. The profile appears to be intact. Having re-installed, how do I connect to the profile which is on a separate disk?

Normally, this should not be a probiem, as the ...appdata\roaming\thunderbird\profiles.ini file should be pointing to the correct profile, wherever it is. Installing thunderbird should not change that setting.
