Quantum has made Firefox unusable, as a result I have now moved to Chrome, when I have configured Chrome why would I return to Firefox? I need a usable system.

The performance has become turgid using Quantum. I need my system to function. I don't have this problem with other browsers. Unfortunately Quantum is forcing me to abandon Firefox, albeit reluctantly. I strongly advise everyone not to do the upgrade. I will give you no more than a week to convince me that Firefox is performant again. I have to use an alternative now, and however relunctantly Chome is the first alternative choice. I'm not a Google fan. Fix this or its goodbye Mozilla. Biggest tech own goal I have seen in recent years. If not fixed within a week, you will have to convince me why I should reconsider and return to Firefox.

Windows 10 64 OS, 8GB Ram, SSD system disk.

Hello,

The Refresh feature (called "Reset" in older Firefox versions) can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.

Note: When you use this feature, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the Refresh Firefox - reset add-ons and settings article for more information.

To Refresh Firefox:

  1. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
    • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click help Help-29 and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
    • If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
  2. At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Refresh Firefox" ("Reset Firefox" in older Firefox versions). Click on it.
  3. Firefox will close. After the refresh process is completed, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
  4. Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

Did this fix the problem? Please report back to us!

Thank you.

hi, i'm not sure if this is a request for support or just a statement you'd like to make. since your experience is far from a universal one, we'd have to go through some troubleshooting steps if you'd like to get it fixed...

I would very much like to get this fixed. I'd prefer to continue using Firefox, but this roll out has been a problem for me. It was much easier to switch to Chome than to mess with Firefox, which is a problem for Mozilla. As has been said, Instant Gratification takes too <expletive long> and you guys have a week to get me fixed. I expect an update that doesn't require me to spend much time being my own tech support when moving to Chome was fast and easy, and gives me the performance I expect.

Ball is in Mozilla's court, not mine to fix the problem.

Responding via Chrome. Sad, really.

Chrome switch was easy, and is responsive. I'd like to see Firefox back on track, it is my preferred browser... I don't want to use "The Wrong Browser" - Wallace and Grommit reference - but the product needs to perform and it has broken. You don't want to follow Netscape down the drain. I'm about as strong a Mozilla supporter as you can get, but the product needs to meet basic functionality and performance requirements. I was happy with v56, quantum has forced me to move to an alternative that I do not like, but if I have to rebuild all my configurations around Chrome then why would I consider moving back to Firefox, you don't just have to fix this, you have to make it better.

Give me the ability to return to 56.x and I might go back to Firefox. In the meantime the sand is running out of your timer.

BTW, I'm an old fart in the tech industry and have seen and lived companies being born and dying. I have some patience, but it is a limited amount. I know how to test systems and software, so "Hello Mozilla, we have a problem..."

"In the meantime the sand is running out of your timer." this forum is mostly powered by other users like you volunteering their time to help, so this attitude won't be well received. if you're not willing to participate in normal troubleshooting steps anyway, then this support request has little sense and we may as well close it...

It is a request for help in fixing a problem, since I do not want to make Chrome my default browser. Sure it is a statement of frustration, since I need to use a decent browser to do my work. Time is money. I have had to move to Chrome to restore decent performance. Mozilla needs to give me a reason to return to Firefox and soon.

Once I take the time and trouble to configure Chrome to my liking, why would I return to Firefox? It won't only have to be equal, it will have to be better. That will not be an easy task, and time is limited.

Hello, install 56.x from here: https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/firefox/releases/56.0.2/

OK, so you've sent me a directory tree, but I want a simple download address, a .exe download. I'm not willing to spend the time to navigate this.

Moving to Chrome is much easier. Get it?
