On Windows 10, Firefox installs and loads, but crashes about 15 seconds later, even if I do nothing. Can this be fixed?

more options

This was happening on Windows 8.1, just before I upgraded. There are so many upgrades happening I do not know what may have triggered this. I think I had just updated Flash and I see some comments on this. I have tried the Beta version of Firefox with the same results. It is just crazy that it installs and actually loads, but only for a few seconds, then it crashes and the box with the message to send details to Mozilla comes. So far, no help from them. A couple of times it asked me to synch my Firefox and this process started, but then it crashed before it finished.

Sorry, you're not on a Mac. This is a correct version of the above for Windows:

Thank you for the crash reports. Unfortunately, I think you will need to temporarily disable or remove the iCloud Bookmarks extension until the source of the problem or conflict is determined.

Start Firefox in its Safe Mode by holding down the shift key when starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Then you can remove iCloud Bookmarks from the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then you can find it on the right side.

After you exit Firefox and start it up again (not holding the shift key), will Firefox run?

We're sorry to hear that your Firefox seems to be crashing when you open it. Please perform the following steps to give us a crash report ID that helps us find out more about the cause of the crash.

  1. On the keyboard, press [Windows] The image "Windows key" does not exist. + [R]. This should bring up a Run window that contains a text field.
  2. In that text field, type %APPDATA% and press Enter. An explorer window should open.
  3. From that explorer window, double-click on the Mozilla folder, then double-click on Firefox and then on Crash reports. Double-click on submitted.
  4. Now, you should see a list of files that contain reports. Go to View > Arrange Icons by > Modified to get the most recent files at the top of the window.
  5. Open the most recent 5 files with a text editor and copy the IDs.
  6. Paste each ID with bp- into the reply window on the forums.

Thanks in advance!

This post has Mac keyboard shortcuts. For Windows, see the next reply.

Start Firefox in its Safe Mode by holding down the option key when starting Firefox. A small dialog should appear. Click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Refresh).

Then you can remove iCloud Bookmarks from the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Cmd+Shift+a
  • "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then you can find it on the right side.

After you quit Firefox and start it up again (not holding the option key), will Firefox run?

I signed out of iCloud and Firefox stopped crashing. So I just uninstalled iCloud to be safe and now not only does Firefox work, but the problems I started having with Windows 10 (Home screen flashing) have stopped as well. So I guess Firefox and Win 10 have problems with iCloud.

Hi a2zonlyt, sorry to hear about the crashes. Do you use iCloud and did the solution of disconnecting from it make any difference?
