I can't get certain pages to load. How can I fix this?

more options

I cannot load certain sites such as Twitter, Firefox Add-ons, etc. I believe this to be a coding error as the pages load basic HTML without images. I have checked to make sure Java is enabled - it is. I have reset Firefox, uninstalled, cleared the cache and history. I still have the same problem. When I try to interact on the pages I get an error that states:

"Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to addons.cdn.mozilla.net. The OCSP response is not yet valid (contains a date in the future). (Error code: sec_error_ocsp_future_response)

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.
Please contact the web site owners to inform them of this problem. Alternatively, use the command found in the help menu to report this broken site." (Got this when I clicked the link on the submission form to Automatically add my Troubleshooting information.)

I am not sure how to fix this. I have tried changing proxy settings as well. I cannot find a solution and with my untrained eye, when I pull up the web code its too much. I am running Windows 8.1, the only security feature I have right now is Windows Defender. Please help! I am new to Firefox, and I would like to see this be better than my previous web browser.

Chosen solution

The error message is very specific to the date/time between Firefox and the OCSP server response.

If you test in Internet Explorer, do you not get an error?

Turning off OCSP would mean that Firefox might accept as valid a security certificate that has been revoked, so it would be better to find a way to resolve this issue rather than disabling OCSP. But if you absolutely have to get into some sites ASAP, that would be an option.

Hmm, "contains a date in the future" usually indicates a problem with your computer's date or time or time zone. Could you check? I'm not sure how you do it from the "new" side of Windows 8.1, but if you switch to the desktop and double-click the date/time on the task bar, you should be able to check/adjust as needed.

Date and time are correct (syncs with time.windows.com), Windows was just reinstalled yesterday, all of that is correct. I am in Atlantic Time.

Few things you can try:

Try to reset that pref: (security.OCSP.enabled)

  • Go to about:config
  • search for security.OCSP.enabled
  • right click and click Reset
  • Restart Firefox.

You can try to reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)

Check the date and time in the clock on your computer: (double) click the clock icon on the Windows Taskbar.
