Send usage data on Firefox mobile browsers

The Send usage data control appears in the settings menu for many of Mozilla’s mobile products. This controls your sharing of crash, technical, testing, notifications and campaign measurement data.

Below is a summary of what the “send usage data” control covers. Each product privacy notice describes the actual data collection, and for full transparency, you can view the source code repositories for Firefox for iOS, Android, FireTV, Lite, Focus, Klar, Firefox ScreenshotGo and Firefox Reality.

Technical and interaction data

  • Mozilla receives this to improve performance and stability.
  • This data is sent by default to Mozilla on Firefox for iOS, Firefox for Android, Firefox Focus, Firefox for FireTV, Firefox Lite, Firefox Reality and Firefox Preview.

Crash and error data

  • Some of our mobile products use developer tools to evaluate the reason for crashes and improve performance and stability.
  • This data is sent to Mozilla by default on Firefox for iOS, Firefox Focus, Firefox for FireTV, Firefox Lite, Firefox ScreenshotGo, Firefox Reality and Firefox Preview

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do you enable data collection by default?

This helps us gain valuable insight into how our mobile products are performing so that we can improve those products.

Data collection is turned off by default in Firefox Klar. If you enable it, we will only receive the technical and interaction data described above.

Why do you use third-party platforms?

We use third-party platforms for functionality and services that we can’t build internally or when it is more efficient to use another service. Learn more about our use of Firebase and adjust GmbH.

How do I turn off data collection and reporting?

You can turn off this collection and reporting in the Settings menu:

Firefox for iOS

  1. At the bottom of the screen, tap the menu button (the menu will be at the top right if you're using an iPad):

  2. Tap Settings in the menu panel.
  3. Scroll down to the Support section and turn off Send Usage Data by sliding the toggle to the left (it will change from blue to white when it is disabled).

Firefox for Android

  1. Tap the menu button. Settings icon in address bar in android

  2. Select Settings.
  3. Select Data collection under the Privacy and Security section.
  4. You will see different types of data collection:

Usage and technical data: When enabled this allows Mozilla to share performance, usage, hardware and customization data about your browser to help improve Firefox.

Experiments: When enabled this allows Mozilla to install and collect data for experimental features.

You can turn off any of these collection types at any time by tapping the toggle to the left (it will change from purple to white when it is disabled).

Older Versions of Firefox for Android:

  1. Tap the menu button (either at the bottom right on some devices or in the upper right of the browser) followed by Settings (you may need to tap More first) .
  2. Tap on the Privacy section, scroll down and remove the check mark next to Firefox Health Report.

Firefox Focus and Firefox Klar

  1. Tap the menu icon (the three dots) and then tap Settings. If you are in the browser, you may have to hit the trash icon first.
  2. Tap Privacy & Security, scroll down to the Data Choices section, and then turn the switch off next to Send usage data.Turn the switch off next to Send usage data.

Firefox Lite

  1. Tap the menu button (three dots) at the bottom of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the switch next to Send usage data to turn it on (blue) or off.

Firefox for Fire TV

  1. From a website, tap the menu button menu button remote on your remote so that the menu icons appear.
  2. Scroll down to the Settings section and select Send usage data.
  3. Turn the switch off for Send usage data.

Firefox Reality

  1. Click the settings (cogwheel) button.
  2. On the next screen, toggle the switch next to Telemetry or Crash Reporting to turn them off or on. Clear means it's not activated.

Firefox ScreenshotGo

  1. Tap the menu button (three dots) at the top of the screen.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the switch next to Send usage data to turn it on (light green) or off.
